Christmas is cheerfully observed around the world, especially by Christians. This is the time of year when friends and family get together to rejoice and share joy with one another. It is a time of year when everyone pauses to reflect on their gratitude and contributes to charitable efforts to aid the underprivileged.
As everyone is aware, Christmas marks the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ in our world and symbolizes the value of life. He was created in a society that was solely aware of greed, anger, retaliation, and hypocrisy. Despite the negativity that was permeating the world as he grew older, he eradicated it all, taught everyone to love one another, and stressed the importance of how expressing gratitude for one's possessions may contribute to world peace.
Keeping the sledge of happiness high, Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management observes this event with great passion. As a tradition, this year the lobby was also adorned, turning it into a location where Christmas and New Year's spirits could be found.
Students of creativity club (Housekeeping department) under the flagship of AIHM studying in different courses & semester worked together as a team and accomplished the task in the best possible manner. The students came out with a brilliant showcase of the creativity which caught everyone’s attention.

The Up skilling Revolution begins here and now!
A comeback in the World of Hospitality after the pandemic has emerged with a new face of awareness among the guests and the employees need to match their expectations. The fear of COVID has created a path full of hurdles and it’s time to launch a trajectory to combat the challenge. Up skilling has hence become an inevitable part of the work process and keeping this in mind KMVN and Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management has signed an MOU for 2 consecutive years to up skill and train around 2000 employees. The consequent transformation in employees working through up-skilling techniques is the challenge on which the KMVN GM Mr. A. P. Bajpai ji (PCS-officer), and the then signing Director Mr. Narendra Singh Bhandari (IAS-officer) wish to work through the efforts of the COO Prof. Dr. Shailendra Singh and Dean Academics Prof. Prashant Sharma of AIHM, Haldwani.
The work of strengthening the skill set has been entailed through five batches of 30 employees each till now bringing it to the count of 150 trained KMVN employees. The conceited efforts of the faculty mentors at AIHM has helped the KMVN employees to understand the importance of designed SOP’s, New tools of technology used in the Hotels, acknowledgements that good grooming standards and hygiene bring to the business flow and various communicative techniques to be employed in all the major departments of hospitality. The week long slots are engaging through several activities designed for their leadership enhancement. With any business investment, measuring outcomes is essential to iteration and improvement. A follow up and track process through tests has also been incorporated in the program to assimilate what works and what doesn’t and to help the employees to continue to improve and gain new skills, and it is believed that this will also help to up-skill employees regularly through the already trained ones.
The time is now to embark on an ‘Up Skilling Revolution’ that allows employees to become immersed in the future of serving with a smile and the Institute has taken a step to raise the serving standards of KMVN for Uttarakhand Tourism to surge in the field of Hospitality.

The faculty Ms Somya Takuli and Mr Acha Vij, involved in the club activity directed the student coordinators Ajay Basera and Ankit Mehta to help the students understand how to deal with guests through situation handling, problem solving, and implication of ways to make the guest have the best experience such that he returns happily and refers enthusiastically to his family and friends. The main Customer Service Skills that help to create strong brand evangelist are empathy, persuasive speaking, adaptability, ability to use positive language, patience and effective listening and these were the main highlights of the day during the workshop. Students were engaged in role plays and solving real life cases as presented by the organizers. A strong customer service environment is the main stay of the day. Hospitality is to serve those who serve others and only those who are well aware and equipped with the skills can help empower the Hotel and its culture. The HOD of Front Office Mr Pankaj Pandey encouraged the students by briefing the skills to them. He made the students aware of the fact that strong foundation lies in empowering the future employees from basic skills like speech improvement to leadership development. It was a fruitful awareness campaign with demonstrations and case studies to upgrade the knowledge required for skill enhancement under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, celebrating 75 years of Independence. Sandwich making workshop at the advent of New Year to celebrate 75 years of Independence.
Skill is the best ingredient for development of hotelier and we are all aware of the role of Sandwich making in the enhancement of motor skills and to foster confidence among the students. At AIHM the students are always exposed to the newer ideas of making delicious food items and one such idea was taken for Skill Development under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Skill Development Workshop was organized on 5th January, 2022 in the Demo Kitchen at AIHM under the leadership of Chef Vinod Negi and Chef Krishna Kumar of Food Production Department. The invitees to the workshop were Dr M K Sharma, HOD B Tech Department of AGI who was also the Chief Guest of the event along with the faculty and students of the first Semester registered under the BHM, DHM, DHMCT and BHMCT courses run at AIHM, Haldwani.
The students were displayed the skill of chopping vegetables, mixing the cream and butter and even the way of handling the bread and spreading a delicious layer of butter over it. It is a delicate art to be taught to the young and enthusiastic hospitality professionals and has a culture of its own associated with region, climate and taste. The skill lies in the selection of the correct temperature, looking for the right texture while baking the bread and adding the right ingredients like cucumber, basil, onions, tomatoes and other vegetable and non vegetable products to produce an appealing appearance. Then what goes inside is simply relinquishing and it is this that the instructors along with the final year students exhibited to the new comers. Some of the sandwiches displayed during the workshop were of Ham & Cheese Sandwich, BLT Sandwich, Smorrebroad and many more. The best part of the workshop was that even the senior students mentored and passed the rich legacy to the first year students.
The Chief Guest Dr M K Sharma congratulated the Gourmet Club members for such a delicious display. He motivated the students with his inspiring words and appreciated Dr.Vinod Negi and Chef Krishna Kumar for organizing this workshop to encouraging students to enhance their skills.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at AIHM
The true story of a flower is rightly reflected through the poetic expression by the poet Sri Makhanlal Chaturvedi through Pushp ke abhilasha where all the sentiments attached to flowers are reflected in a subtle manner. The Flower is a spiritual gift of nature to mankind through the palliative and mollifying effect it has on the eyes of the onlooker. Its ample and varied existence as a free gift from the bosom of mother earth has also helped human minds to make it more available at various occasions. The birth of the human from the lotus bloom originating from the naval of Lord Vishnu has added the value of flowers as a religious identity as well. The lovely look of flowers has even captivated the human mind to the identifying of nations and states through flowers. The Egyptians to Japanese and Indians all have added flowers in their daily use. The color, fragrance and the eye delighting flowers are a wonder to civilizations and this is why flower decoration has been notified as an ancient art that still holds equal importance even in this technological age.
The aesthetic and spiritual aspects of flowers carry a promising presence at Hospitality Sector as well. They brighten up the day of many guests as they appear at the front desk to the washroom and living room of the Hotels. The special occasions celebrated through the lovely gesture of gifting a boutique, keeping a flower vase at the bed side or decorating a wall with incarnations and gifting a rose bud to the loved ones, all hold special memory for the guest. Flower decoration is a skill that thus needs to be displayed to the budding hoteliers. The Housekeeping Department at AIHM organized a Skill Development Workshop to up-skill the traditional flower decoration styles as required in Hospitality Sector for the DHM, DHA and Creativity Club Students on the 21st of December, 2021. The workshop was a good afternoon affair that brightened the spirits at the advent of the winter spreading as fog throughout the area. The Chief Guest of the workshop, Registrar AGI Prof Pankaj Sah was welcomed through the artistic display of the flowers turned to bouquet by Mr Ramashish Prajapati, a faculty member specialized in the art of flower decoration. The free style flower arrangement, traditional flower arrangement and floating flower arrangement styles predominated the workshop. The Chief Guest was enthralled to see such a beautiful sight of nature being presented in the most creative manner by human kind and congratulated the team members for the adornments. It is a glorious moment for the students to be a part of such a lively workshop designed for the enhancement of their skills. The faculty appreciates the art taught to them when they arrive with newer ideas at the Institute and in the Hotel as professionals.

Hospitality valorizes cultural tourism through simple Hygiene and Grooming protocols.
The cultural exposure offered through the world’s largest industry giants, the Hospitality Industry, is worth commending and its importance has been felt more through its absence during the pandemic. The rich cultural resources of a country depend heavily on its appreciation by not just the inland dwellers but the foreigners too. Moreover, we are all aware that the Indian culture has been a robust source of attraction to people all around the globe and its magnificence speaks through the ancient historic texts. This attractive country has offered solemnity, peace, serenity, flamboyant monuments and temples to the travelers all around as witnessed in the pre-pandemic era with tourists pouring in to feel the splendid cultural lust. The comfort of these guests however, rests at the valuable hands of the Hospitality Sector and the Institutes that make professional hoteliers. The Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management, Haldwani has also been giving paramount importance to ‘Grooming and Hygiene’ and trying to inculcate a sense of ethics among its students through various extracurricular activities and workshops. One such workshop was held at the campus on 16th December, 2021 to generate awareness for Swachta or cleanliness under the banner of the 75th Government of India, Swachha Bharat Abhiyan as the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The students participated in this engaging ‘Grooming and Hygiene Workshop’ organized by the members of the Sharp and Future Club of the F & B Service Department under Mr Pawan Mehra of AIHM. The first and third year students of BHMCT, DHMCT, BHM KU and DHM were present in the workshop. The Director and the Dean Academics, AIHM and the F & B Service Club Heads and faculty members added charm to the workshop by their presence. Two faculty members demonstrated the various grooming standards required to be incorporated as a professional for the industry and also briefed the students on the best hygiene practices. The workshop was made engaging through students’ participation in activities like Handshake Procedure, Hair Bun Making, and the Best Way to Clean Hands and on how to Handle Cutleries where judgment was done by the Faculty Judges and two best participants were acknowledged with certificates. The Dean Academics, AIHM briefed them on the practical applicability of the ‘Swachha Bharat Abhiyan’ that our esteemed Prime Minister has been advocating. Simple protocols are thus revitalized and engrained through habitual efforts via activities at the Institute thereby celebrating Indian foresightedness.

Motivation is best reflection from the winner.
It was a proud moment for Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management, Haldwani when one of the successful alumnus walked in with beautiful memories of the golden days spent in the campus. Mr. Farhan Ansari is currently the Assistant Manager (Operations) at BRYS caves, The Jungle Resort, Corbett National Park, Ramnagar, Uttarakhand. He gave a motivational session on how to learn to become what the budding professionals want in the next few years. He reflected his treadmills to the path of success to the students through the various activities that he indulged in during the course. A Mr. Fresher and an all rounder Mr Farhan Ansari uplifted the moral of the first year students by guiding them to be participative in both academic and extracurricular activities. As he cherished the small prizes of his life achieved through hard toil, he even told the students that the journey took him to several places from Leela, Oberoi, Udaivilas, Taj Mahal Hotel to IHG Abu Dhabi and now he continues his journey in Uttarakhand. It was a splendid day spent with one of the best crown of Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management, Haldwani.

When we become the Global Family- The Cake Mixing Ceremony.
AIHM instilled cultural awareness among its students through the ‘Ceremonious Cake Mixing Ceremony’ held on the 25th Of November 2021 at AIHM, Ground Floor Restaurant. The joyous ceremony was organized by the Chefs through the Gourmet Club under the Food Production Department. It was a beautiful event that marked the onset of the festive Christmas mood among the students. The thirteen ingredients that symbolize the presence of Lord Jesus and his twelve disciples that worked to create a better world were demonstrated through the event. It was a fantastic sight to see the ‘Rum meet the Resins’ to flavor the Christmas cake. The presence of the Management and Guests playing equal heed to the event through their participation and the students and faculty participation in the event with full gusto filled the gap of isolation and pain that the pandemic had brought in the past years.
The concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ is the ancient motto of Indians and it lives through hospitality at AIHM, Haldwani.

Spice cannot do its magic alone and nor can sugar but years of initiative and effort can enhance the ‘Building Forward Together.’ A part of the theme for International Chefs’ Day 2021 was recognized by the building blocks of AIHM, Haldwani. The successive passing down of knowledge and the rich heritage was observed through the competitive participation by the Student Chef at the Institute itself. Tradition stays while trend changes
The new norms have not much place in the Hotel Brands that were already well versed with cleanliness. They had not to reorient them; they had to simply upgrade the way to reach out to the guest. They dug to the scientific ways of food preparation and preservation.

Story telling went through various steps of development to communicate with the little ones. A Webinar was planned and successfully completed on 19th January 2021 by the Housekeeping department under the flagship of Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management, Haldwani. This session was planned and conducted keeping in mind the challenges and issues confronted both by the teacher in terms of making the students understand as well as by the student who is not in a position to visualize the center of the lecture. The participants were the faculties and the students of final year. The topic for the Webinar was NEW PROPERTY COUNTDOWN –Housekeeping in Newly Made Hotels and the resource person for this Webinar was Mr. Gaurav Singh Gangola, Manager Housekeeping, Seychelles. Brief Introduction of Mr. Gaurav Singh Gangola After passing out from IHM, Meerut in 2012 he started his career by working with The Oberoi Udaivilas, Udaipur and then worked at the supervisory and managerial level. Then finally rose to the position of Housekeeping Manager at Le Chateau De Feuilles –Seychelles. Mr. Gangola stared the session by illuminating the role of the housekeeping. He said that the housekeeping department of a hotel is the heart of the hotel. It is responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, and aesthetic upkeep of the hotel. The role of housekeeping unlike food and beverage or the front of the house department’s starts way before the hotel commences as a full- fledged operation. The pre - opening calendar for any property starts two-three years ahead, but it is unrealistic to suppose that every executive housekeeper can be hired far enough in advance to take part in the original planning with top management and the architects. However, in some cases it is possible to plan ahead who your housekeeper will be and consult her in advance about the entire housekeeping operation. Other important points covered by him were every hotel prepares a Mock up Room for the start to attract the clientele. Also the entire project is completed under the guidance of the Project General Manager. During the entire pre-opening stage Snagging List plays a vital role which has more than 460 points. The session was concluded by adding the last point which is the handover from the Project Team starts and the handover is cross checked with De- Snagging list. This is very helpful in getting the things done accurately without any hiccups or complains.

A harbinger of good tidings and happiness the cake mixing ceremony was performed blithe fully with social distancing amidst COVID 19 at AIHM.
There is something very special about the AIHM Ground Floor Restaurant as it has witnessed many ceremonious occasions. Although cake mixing ceremony dates back to the 17th century in Europe its tradition continues at AIHM since its inception. A joyous moment, a rich experience of mixing the fruits and nuts and pouring rich wine over it all with a tinge of cooperation to spread camaraderie and goodwill is a souvenir for the organization. The blessings that come forth from the esteemed Management, Directors of various departments and through the presence of faculty and staff is celebration. This 2020 thus pitched in the gathering with different ingredients, vessels and labor and marked it as one big celebration of the heralding of Christmas.

It is well known to artists that during the Renaissance the term 'disegno' implied drawing both as a technique to be distinguished from coloring and also as the creative idea made visible in the preliminary sketch. The COVID 19 phase has ultimate this art from creative hands and brought forth a new era of entertainment and hobby among the ‘Creative Club Members’ of the housekeeping department at AIHM, Haldwani. And- ‘as the sun went cold and pale as moon and festivities engaged men’, the club members crowned the festivities with their celebration of art in the form of artistic rangoli for Diwali wishing a happy and safe Diwali. Some skills need no endorsement and some work requires no felicitation as it emerges from the heart giving immense pleasure to the giver and receiver. Content in the word and the best day of these young artists are when they get to give art to others, we see them light up!

Housekeeping Department in Hospitality Industry is the so called COVID 19’ Warrior requiring as dynamic a policy as possible to swiftly slide onto the parameter of change. Adaptability has become the next game of the play induced by COVID that has hit the Hotel Industry the most. This has raised several questions in the mind of every individual as all are involved in the process of recreation as part of subsistence in today’s busy and engaging world. A discussion is therefore, the first priority of the industry and has enveloped the interest of both professionals and commoners’. A webinar was hosted by the Housekeeping Department, AIHM on the occasion of the International Housekeeper’s Week on 19th September, 2020. The theme was the ‘Effect of COVID 19 on Housekeeping Practices’. Many renowned personalities hosted the event with promising thoughts that the sun will definitely rise but preparations over several nights are important. Mr. Vinod Suhag, Regional Director of Housekeeping, Dubai, Mr. Gaurav Gangola, Manager, Housekeeping, Seychelles and Mr. Pallav Anand, Executive Housekeeper, Ghaziabad provided thoughtful insights to the guests for the post pandemic New World requirements and equipments that will help them meet the guest requirements.
The pandemic has definitely given a tough blow to the Hospitality Industry and its comeback will be even tougher with huge expectations from suspicious and aware guests that will turn as a challenge to the industry employees. The housekeeping practices will need to be upgraded with simultaneous preparations as medical equipments and general awareness of not just sanitary and hygiene requirements but also ways to handle the medical emergency without infecting oneself. Concern about cleanliness is pervasive. Hospitality will no longer remain ‘flawless and invisible’; it will have to take a centre stage in communication throughout the guest experience. The eminent speakers hold on to the thought of hospitality consultant Larry Mogelonsky of ‘Cleanliness Theatre’ akin to ‘Security Theatre’. It was a much required and essential online development at AIHM, Haldwani.

The pandemic has left mankind with little choice to movement. The surmount pressure that one faces within the confines of the home leaves an indefinable spirit but is it so with the ones who are mining their creativity by digging deep into the creative aspects of their life? Are we all sailing in the same boat of desperation and desolation? Is the world really getting confined like the ‘Lakshaman Rekha’ or are some fortifying their positivity and building their creativity?
The answer lies in the wonderful creation by the members of the ‘Decoration Club’ also published as ‘Creativity Club’ of AIHM-AGI. The comradeship built through exuberant grace of creativity has sent ripples of wonderful vibes of artistic display throughout AIHM. The young armors of Tourism and Hospitality Industry have raised their banners through their creativity even this time via posters and banners depicting the ‘World Tourism Day.’ The posters were projections of the travelers’ instinct to raise our spirits, galvanize the fire and heighten our hopes.

AUGUST MEANS ‘INSPIRING REVERANCE OR ADMIRATION’ as AIHM celebrates Janmastami, Rakshabandhan and Independence Day in its own creative style.
Reverence and admiration are the words associated with August. Do you know that the month of August was once called Sexlitus meaning 6th and in 8 BC the month was named August after Augustus Caesar, the first Roman Emperor. We may call it coincidence or destiny but August is the month of Reverence and admiration in our institute as in our country.

AUGUST MEANS ‘INSPIRING REVERANCE OR ADMIRATION’ as AIHM celebrates Janmastami, Rakshabandhan and Independence Day in its own creative style.
Reverence and admiration are the words affiliated with August. Do you know that the month of August was earlier called ‘Sexlitus’ meaning 6th and in the 8 BC the month was named August after Augustus Caesar, the first Roman Emperor. We may call it coincidence or destiny but August is the month of Reverence and admiration in our country as well. That the country still holds millions in its heart was seen through its celebration at AIHM as well.
Rakshabandhan, the admirable festival of love and compassion to celebrate the brother and sister bond falls in this month and so does the Independence Day. The air is full of love and patriotism wetted with the humid days that call upon the heavens to shower their greetings.
This year it was a solemn process with the Management and the residents at Amrapali Group of Institutes hoisting the National Flag.
The students indulged in creativity, found it an opportunity to create and recreate. The students of the Decoration Club symbolically sketched their love through drawings and posters of the National Flag and the emblems of the country. An extra mile effort was demonstrated by Rahul Chaudhary with the slogan ‘Mera Bharat Mahan’ along with Jacinta Simon, Kiran Pandey, Deepak Bhatt and Rahul Pandey while Rohit Sah went to create a short video on the same creating patterns that represent the motherland and its pride. The goose bumps that many experience during the National Song can be felt through the efforts of these young creative and determined hearts that celebrated the nation’s independence through their creativity.
The students of the Decoration Club also organized a club activity inspiring each other to prepare Rakhi at home. The displays were very professional and the products revealed passion at its zenith. Rohit Kumar Sah of HM 7th Sem, Pankaj Faritiyal of HM 3rd Year, Anjali Dumka, Jacinta Simon and Rahul Pandey of HM 2nd Year, Kiran Pandey of BHM KU, Rahul Chaudhary, Karan Negi and Deepak Bhatt of HM 3rd Sem were felicitated for their exclusive contributions. Equally contributive were the Janmastami celebration through sketches and drawings.

Fortify positivity and insulate creativity says ‘The Decoration Club-AIHM’.
The lockdown has come up perhaps with the slogan among members of Decoration Club of ASCAB-AIHM.
The students of the decoration club at AIHM must have come across the saying that, ‘The brain finds what it is looking for when the intentions are creative.’
The past fifteen days were amazing company as the members of the decoration club under the leadership of Rohit Shah of BHM KU 6th Sem dug into the intricacies of drawing with Indo Western Culture. It is oft said that the deepest moments of crises bring the best of human knowledge and skills.
The fortnight began with a good wish from Lord Shiva as a painting by Rahul Pandey wishing happy Shravan month to the members. Anyone could have been carried away to travel with the greenery that reminds of travelling during Shravan month when Rohit Shah exhibited the Trival Warli art on a linen mask as a reminder of the pandemic. Then his adornment of the western gown with Indian art brought up the spirits of all and then started the show of fineness. Rahul Chaudhary went ahead with his welcome posing the Indian western dance through such delicacy that eyes could behold for a lifetime. Fantabulous! Cheered the members as Rahul Pandey presented sparkling and dangling paintings of dresses. Kiran Pandey presented bookmarks and facemarks through madhubani paintings and hand paintings with different dance postures came as a colourful gesture from Anjali Dumka, the girl student coordinator and Jacinta Simon. A silent prayer at heart and a meditative mood was finally set in by Pankaj who presented a conch with Dharma Shloka and Buddha with lotus and Deepak Bhatt sent versus of Guru Granth Sahib in Mandala.
A sip of tea with the COVID around was finally caught by members of the Future and Sharp Club as they created videos and posted in the club.
Hobby is the break that really helps to dig the ‘me in me’ and that is what every individual must learn to live life to the fullest. The members of ‘Decoration Club and Future and Sharp Club’ are really becoming more agile and efficient company during the lock down.
